MY "WHY"
Why I Created This Guide Series
After battling chronic illness and spending over a decade in and out of doctors’ offices, specialists, and hospitals, I am no stranger to the failures of the conventional healthcare system in America. I then spent the next 13 years deeply immersed in the holistic healing, naturopathic health, and alternative wellness world.
In late 2023, while still living in toxic mold and severely ill with CIRS (mold illness), I learned that I had a specific genetic haplotype that didn’t just make me susceptible to mold illness, but also to chronic fatigue syndrome, vaccine injury, and biotoxin illness of all kinds. This discovery sparked my deep dive into Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis. Although I already had experience with functional labs, analyzing and decoding “conventional” blood work through a functional lens became a new hyper-focus for my neurodivergent brain.
I couldn’t fathom how functional blood chemistry wasn’t standard in healthcare. How is it that medical doctors—regarded as the gold standard for solutions and answers when we're dealing with health issues — are never taught how to interpret blood work to find imbalances and organ & systemic dysfunctions!? It truly blew my mind.
As I dug deeper, I quickly realized that most resources in this field were built for functional practitioners and physicians. And while that completely made sense -- there was very little available that translated functional blood chemistry into something that everyday people could actually use in real life, whether navigating chronic illness themselves or helping a child, parent, or partner find answers.
That’s when the idea took shape: to bridge that gap by taking an incredibly complex and nuanced realm and translating it into something accessible and useful for anyone who needed it.
I wanted to create an all-in-one map to:
- Show what labs to order for specific ailments, symptoms, and challenges (and how to order them without a Doctor/Doctor visits)
- Compare lab biomarkers one-by-one to "optimal values" and see what markers are actually "optimal" versus which ones are “off” --- and what those values could be indicating (even when someone has been told their blood work is “all good” or “normal”)
- Be able to present biomarker patterns for various conditions so if someone is concerned about let's say "insulin resistance or diabetes" they can go to that condition and see what biomarkers to look for being "high" or "low"
So I began creating this guide in honor of:
- The 10+ years I spent being dismissed by doctors and specialists who told me my labs were “normal” while I was seemingly bedridden for years
- Every person who’s been told “you’re fine,” “it’s just stress,” “it’s all in your head,” or “here’s a referral to a psychiatrist”
- The millions struggling with their health, being dismissed, gaslit, and losing hope within the conventional healthcare system
What started as one guide quickly grew into two… and then three.
Fast forward ten months and over 480 hours later—this series is officially here.
Each guide can be used on its own, and together are a powerful, cohesive toolkit.
This is not opinion-based. It’s 100% clinically sourced and backed by data from top functional medicine experts in blood and lab chemistry. This 3-in-1 toolkit makes the invisible visible—clear, grounded, clinically-backed insight you can actually use for life. Whether you’re managing your own symptoms or helping others navigate theirs, you deserve resources that don’t leave you in the dark and that help you understand what’s actually going on in your body—and what it may be trying to communicate.
Who It’s For:
- The everyday person who’s been told “you’re fine” when you know you’re not—and the parent searching for answers for their child
- The health enthusiast who wants to go deeper in monitoring their own body
- Every coach, health professional, and holistic practitioner who wants to support clients in a more informed, empowering way
- Even conventional physicians and practitioners seeking practical tools to help expand into a functional approach
Bottom line: It’s for anyone who wants to understand their body, connect the dots, and stop outsourcing their health to a system that treats you like a number on an assembly line—only looking at a fraction of the full picture.
As a patient, I needed something that didn’t gaslight my lived experience.
As a practitioner & health coach, I needed a tool that could bridge clinical data with real-life —organized in a clear, chart-based format that didn’t require hours of digging.
While no guide can replace personalized care, I spent over 8 months and 450+ hours creating something both clinically grounded and human-centered.
Whether you’re a chronic illness warrior, a wellness enthusiast, a health professional, or someone just beginning to explore this world—this is a resource you can grow with, if you choose to.
To a body well-nourished, a heart well-honored, a soul well-fulfilled, and a life well-lived.

ANSWERS TO YOUR POTENTIAL QUESTIONS
FAQ:
*** If you have ANY questions not covered on this webpage and or in this FAQ question, I would be happy to help you! Please send an e-mail to me at : carina@hhcollectivewellness.com
Are these guides a replacement for seeing a doctor?
No. No guide/ebook/pdf should be used to try to "replace" 1:1 personalized/customized care.
These guides are educational tools to help you understand your labs and health patterns more deeply while advocating for your healing. They are not intended to diagnose, treat, or replace personalized medical advice.
I don’t have a medical background. Will I still understand this?
I did my best to write these keeping in mind that a lot of people will not have a health background. These guides are written in plain, approachable language — no medical degree needed. You’ll find simple explanations, symptom-based suggestions, and organized charts that make complex information easy to digest. ** If there is an abbreviated term like "PCOS" I typically have it written out at least once (polycystic ovary syndrome) so that the reader knows what it is.
Do these guides work for both men and women?
Absolutely. The guides cover 115+ biomarkers and over 100+ conditions relevant to both men and women. There are even some gender-specific conditions like hormone imbalances, menstrual irregularities, and prostate health.
What’s the difference between “functional” ranges and “conventional” lab ranges?
This answer is covered in depth in the guides from multiple angles - however a short version: Conventional ranges look for disease extremes based on "normal" ranges taken from the average population which includes a very sick population.
Functional ranges look for optimal health zones. Functional blood chemistry identifies imbalances & dysfunctions before they become bigger issues — catching trends Conventional Doctor aren't trained to find/catch.
I’ve been told my labs are ‘normal.’ Can these guides still help me?
Yes! Many people still feel unwell despite “normal” labs. These guides help you spot patterns within the normal range that might point to nutritional deficiencies, stress on organs, or early imbalances.
Are the guides only for practitioners?
Not at all. While they are detailed enough for health coaches, nutritionists, chiropractors, and other wellness professionals, they are designed to empower everyday people to understand their own health.
How do I know which labs to order?
Guide 3 is your roadmap. It gives you step-by-step lab suggestions for 40+ common symptoms, plus additional functional test recommendations (like hormone panels or gut tests) when helpful. You can *also* use Guide 2 to "reverse engineer" what labs to order by looking at thet typical high/low lab markers that are typically found with that condition/issue.
Can these guides help me read past lab results?
Absolutely! If you have any bloodwork results, you can use the guides to cross-check your results against functional ranges and condition patterns.
